Early life
Braugher was born as a son to Sally, a postal worker and Floyd Braugher, a heavy equipment operator. Braugher has three siblings. He pursued his high school studies at St. Ignatius College Prep and graduated with a B.A in theatre from Stanford University in 1984. Braugher was acknowledged as the Most Outstanding Theatre Student at Graduation after graduating in 1988 from Juilliard School in New York.
Career
Braugher appeared in his first ever role in 1989, in a Civil War epic named Glory as Thomas Searles. He also starred in City of Angles in 1998.
Braugher was selected as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 1997, by People magazine. He has also received an Obie Award for playing the title role of Henry V at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park at New York City’s Shakespeare in the Park festival from June 18 to July 14, 1996. Braugher also worked in the television series Gideon’s Crossing, which despite its good reviews, lasted for only one season.
Braugher portrayed Nick Atwater in the FX network’s mini series Thief in 2006. In 2007 hit film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer he portrayed the character of General Hager.
Braugher’s other work experiences include Striking Distance (1993), Primal Fear (1996), Get on the Bus (1996), Thick as Thieves (1998), Passing Glory (1999), Love Songs (1999), it’s the Rage (1999), A Better Way To Die (2000), Frequency (2000), Soldier’s Girl (2003), The Mist (2007), Passengers (2008) and many more.
On the television series Homicide: Life on the Street Braugher portrayed Det. Frank Pembleton. His character is that of a self-righteous, fiery, and unyielding, Jesuit educated police detective. Braugher earned huge fame from this television series. And in 1997and 1998, he even won Television Critics Association award for individual achievement in drama.
Personal Life
Braugher got married to Ami Brabson in 1991 and has three sons, Michael (born in 1992), Isaiah (1997) and John Wesley (2003). He, with his family, resides in South Orange in New Jersey.
